Ohio - Indiana - Montana - Tennessee - NYC - Colorado

I was born and raised a Buckeye. After earning my MFA in creative writing and MA in literature at Indiana University, I taught creative writing at Butler University, and covered cycling and music reviews for NUVO in Indianapolis. Next I headed west and worked at a high-end restaurant in Livingston, Montana, where I learned about organic farming and met Anthony Bourdain and Jim Harrison. I spent a year in Nashville, Tennessee, where I taught music-business majors how to tell a story. I lived in Brooklyn and Harlem in NYC, and worked with electricians who were earning their degree as they apprenticed in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 3. After four years in the city, the mountains were calling. I initially came out to Colorado to help some friends launch a business in Buena Vista, but after a summer, I was hooked.

These days I’m a freelance writer specializing in outdoor adventure. Bylines in Esquire, GQ, Runner’s World, Bicycling, Triathlete, Popular Mechanics, Outside, USA Triathlon, 5280, The Outline, Colorado Traveler, Atlas Obscura, and ROVA. Content for The Pro’s Closet, Velocio Apparel, and Moots. Currently available for assignments. (micahling007@gmail.com)
